"The Walking Dead" star Michael Cudlitz broke his silence about the Season 7 premiere of the AMC smash, revealing that the cast members had to lie for months to keep the identity of Negan's victim.

Sunday's season opener of "The Walking Dead" finally answered what fans have been dying to know for months. Not only did it kill-off one major cast member, Abraham, but fan-favorite Glenn also did not survive the brutal outing. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Cudlitz has revealed that he and his fellow cast members had to lie to keep the show's secret locked-in just until the hiatus break is over.

"One of the good things was that we were able to spread a rumor that not even the cast knew what was going to happen and that they were going to find out when they came back and they filmed everybody's death scene just in case," Cudlitz told the publication.

"And they said they were re-doing contract negotiations for some of the cast - all that was a lie. But what it enabled us to do was not have to defend who was dead or hide who was dead for at least five months, which was great."

Steven Yeun, for his part, describes the whole experience as "gnarly." In the episode, viewers found out about 20 minutes in that his character, Glenn, was also getting smashed by Lucille - a scene which was utterly heartbreaking especially for Maggie and Glenn shippers. While this is the case, Yeun already knows that his character's death is imminent.

"For me, personally, I didn't want anyone else to take that death, and I don't think anyone intended to give it to anyone else, to be quite honest," Yeun told TV Line.

"It's such an iconic moment, and I knew it was necessary to happen."

An all new episode of "The Walking Dead" Season 7 titled "The Well" airs on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 9PM on AMC.
