NBA league and National Basketball Players Association has agreed to return to negotiation table to discuss CBA on Wednesday. The negotiation between them has almost finalized the new labor agreement and all parties are optimism that the deal will be reached soon.
Both the NBA and NBPA have the meeting scheduled in New York on Wednesday to discuss the collective bargaining agreement, as reported by ESPN. The meeting is scheduled held one day before the annual board of governor session and both parties are optimistic the deal will soon be reached.
The scheduled meeting is the signal that both NBA and NBPA really intended to close the deal before the 2017. The current CBA was ratified in December 2011 after a devastating NBA lockout and will expire in June 2021. But both NBA and NBPA has expressed an intent to opt out from the agreement in 2017.
Therefore before 2017, the agreement must be reached. In response to that issue, both sides have stated their common interest and goal to strike the deal soon. Based on the progress of the meeting, both parties expect the basic framework of the CBA can be achieved as early as this month. Best outcome, according to CBS Sports, is to finish the agreement before the season starts without public dama or media expose.
"Both sides have been very engaged and eager to get a deal done," NBA Commissioner Silver said last week in China during NBA Global Game. Silver also mentioned about the Wednesday's meeting with NBPA executive director Michele Roberts and the NBPA president Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul.
Meanwhile vice president of the NBPA LeBron James has also expressed his optimism in the CBA deal. He also promised that the players association will seek to find a way to help retired player in the CBA agreement.
