Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer biopic ‘Sarbjit’s’ first poster released and new release date revealed

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chaddha starrer highly anticipated biographical movie "Sarbjit" will now be released one day before its scheduled release date. The film that was slated to hit the theaters on May 20 will premiere on May 19.

The big news was announced on "Sarbjit's" director Omung Kumar's wife Vanita Kumar's Twitter account. The post revealed the new release date as well as the first poster of the movie. The post was retweeted by the director himself. Scroll down to view the poster.

Omung Kumar is best known for his 2014 biographical movie "Mary Kom" featuring Priyanka Chopra in the leading role of the boxer. The director has earned several laurels and accolades for his directorial debut. He even received prestigious National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Based on the true story, "Sarbjit" tells the story of Indian national convicted for being involved in terrorist activities and spying in Pakistan. He was tried by Pakistan Supreme Court on the suspect of being involved in 1990 bombings in Lahore and Faisalabad.

Meanwhile, Singh claimed to be an Indian farmer who unintentionally crossed the border. He was taken into custody and then sentenced to death by the Pakistan court. However, he was beaten up by his inmates in jail. Six days after, he succumbed to injuries and died.

The "Highway" actor Hooda will be playing the titular role of Sarabjit Singh. Chaddha, who is noted for her work in "Masaan" and "Fukrey," will play the role of Singh's wife Sukhpreet Kaur. As for Bachchan, she will be portraying the role of Singh's sister Dalbir Kaur.

Besides Bachchan, Hooda and Chaddha, "Sarbjit" stars Darshan Kumar. The actor, who played the role of the leading male character in "Mary Kom," will be portraying the role of a Pakistani Lawyer Khalid Pervaiz. Recently, in an interview, the actor talked about the movie and if he expects any controversy regarding the movie.

"No... We just shot the jail portions, and then will go to Punjab. The film is very close to reality. There is nothing controversial," Kumar said as quoted by Times of India. "It's a tough film, set in a real zone biopic. We are focusing on every detail. I hope the audience will like it," he added.
