Samsung temporarily suspends Galaxy Note 7 production, company official says

The Consumer Safety Commission announced today a safety recall on Samsung's new Galaxy Note 7 smartphone after users reported that some of the devices caught fire when charging.

Samsung Electronics Co. halts production of all Galaxy Note 7 and issue a worldwide recall of the smartphone after series of report about the replacement products caught fire.

An official at the suppliers of the Samsung Electronics Co. said the company has suspended production of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. According to report by Yonhap News Agency, the company decided to halt the production over a series of media reports that some of the Note 7 replacements have caught fire

The official whose name is not mentioned said the suspended production is taken in cooperation with consumer safety regulators in several countries, which mainly its target market in South Korea, U.S. and China. The suspension includes the company's manufacturing plant in Vietnam, where Samsung smartphones are shipped around the world.

In Australia, carriers also suspended the sales or exchange of Note 7. While U.S. airlines reinstates ban on passengers from using mobile phones in the airplane, after the Note 7 replacement device burst out smoke with led to passengers evacuation last week.

Samsung was reported to replace majority of its faulty smartphone in the U.S. and home country. But its replacement device has not fully shown an improvement to fix its defective products. According to Reuters, Samsung's brand has already hurt and this problem threatens to hinder its recovery in mobile business.

A brand strategist at the Reputation Management Consultants Eric Schiffer said that if Samsung insisted to continue its Note 7, it could lead to a greatest single act of brand self-destruction in the history of modern technology. He compare the faulty Note 7 to he failure of Ford Pinto, which was marketed in 1970's and well-known for its worst safety record that easily catch fire in its .

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was released in August this year as a successor of Galaxy Note 5. It has similar technology advancement in Galaxy S7 with an additional stylus. But recent incidents around the world, clearly show that Note 7 doesn't have the manufacturing design and quality of the Galaxy S7.
