"Wasteland" was a hit RPG based on a post-apocalyptic setting that was released in 1988. After many decades, the sequel was released in 2014. Now, a third installment is up for development and will be released eventually - providing that crowdfunding on Fig will help out.

inXile Entertainment will be planning on bringing "Wasteland 3" into fruition by once more relying on crowdfunding. This time players controlling the Desert Rangers will be traversing in the frozen savage waste of Colorado. What's interesting is that, besides new characters, weapons and vehicles, the game studio mentioned the game having a cooperative multiplayer feature, based on reports from Rock, Paper, and Shotgun. However, instead of Kickstarter, inXile will get crowdfunding from Fig this time on October.

Just like its predecessors, "Wasteland 3" will be a squad-based RPG with turn-based, tactical combat. In the Colorado frozen lands, the Desert Rangers will be setting up base and a new reputation, where along the way they'll meet new characters, friend and foe alike. Choices will be made as well, especially on the moral side, whether it will involve being the savior of people or their demise.

It is speculated that the co-op feature will group players together in the typical multiplayer fashion. However, the games are linked even when the other isn't online. This may result to the world being surprisingly changed for the other player when he logs in again.

Speaking of Fig, it's a crowdfunding site like Kickstarter, which was set up by people who are mostly associated with games. It even has its own board of developers also, which includes inXile CEO Brian Fargo. The thing that separates Fig from the other crowdfunding sites is that it lets people actually invest in the projects and receive their money back.

Polygon reported that the game studio is aiming for $2.75 million, which will also include $2.2 million in equity. Fargo also mentioned that it's difficult "to get people's attention with pure rewards-based funding" especially if they don't play the game "they backed." That being said, the inXile CEO hopes that their investment strategy of Fig will correct the way Kickstarter does crowdfunding.

The Fig crowdfunding campaign for "Wasteland 3" will launch in a week.
