South Korean actress Ha Ji Won has been confirmed to be part of the case of John Woo's upcoming movie entitled "Manhunt."
"The fact that I'll be able to work with Director John Woo, who everyone coveted since they were young, is like a dream. It feels like such an honor to work with a virtuoso director who, as a person, is so pure and warm," Ha Ji Won said during a gala dinner hosted by Media Asia Group of Hong Kong at the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival this past weekend.
Ha Ji Won will play the role of a beautiful assassin named Tzuyu alongside the lead cast Masaharu Fukuyama from "Midsummer's Equation," China's award-winning actor Zhang Hanyu from "Assembly," and actress Stephy Qi Wei from "Broadcasting Girl."
"Manhunt" is described as a remake of a very popular 1978 Japanese movie entitled "Crossing Your River of Wrath," which was a massive hit. It was reportedly the first foreign film shown in post-Cultural Revolution China.
The movie tells the story of a small district office prosecutor portrayed by Zhang, who has been framed for a robbery, multiple murders, and rape. While he sets out to prove his innocence and to clear his name, a detective, who is portrayed by Masaharu, will be chasing him.
Media Asia has acquired the movie rights from the publisher Tokuma Shoten and has a budget of $30 million for "Manhunt." The production of the movie will start this month in Osaka, Japan.
The legendary Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo is directing "Manhunt," and it is set to premiere in 2017.
