Tokyo-born actress Rila Fukushima is set to appear in the upcoming DreamWorks' movie "Ghost in the Shell" alongside a powerful cast that includes Scarlett Johnson, Michael Pitt, Takeshi Kitano, and others.

Fukushima appeared as the female ninja and sword-slinger Yukio in 2013's "Wolverine" with the well-known Wolverine Hugh Jackman. She also appeared as the DC superhero Katana in The CW's Arrow Season 3 instead of "Sin City" star Devon Aoki, and as a Red Priestess on "Game of Thrones."

Now, Fukushima will appear in this live action Hollywood movie adaptation of a famous classic manga also named as "Ghost in the Shell." The upcoming movie will be about a one-of-kind-human-cyborg hybrid Kusanagi in an elite cybercrime-fighting task force known as Section 9.

Actors Michael Pitt as Kuze, "Game of Thrones" star Pilou Asbaek as Batou, another Japanese actor Takeshi Kitano as Kusanagi's boss, Juliette Binoche, and others will be joining Fukushima in this action-packed film. Scarlett Johansson will play the lead character as half-android cybercop Major Motoko Kusanagi. "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders will be directing this futuristic action film. Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss were the script writers.

In 1989, Masamune Shirow created "Ghost in the Shell" that began as a manga series. It became popular to the western audience during the 1990s and this resulted in four anime movies. "Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie," which is the latest of those anime movies, was released in 2015. A number of video games were also adapted to it. The original producers of this movie, Production IG, announced in February that a new anime show entitled "Perfect Bones" for Netflix is in work.

"Ghost in the Shell" will hit the theaters on March 31 next year.
