San Antonio Spurs signed center Joel Anthony to another 10-day contract after his first contract expired on Feb. 2. The Spurs need to incorporate Anthony to strengthen their rim protection who is known as defense specialist during the absence of Pau Gasol.

Anthony signed another 10-day contract, as reported by NBA.com. He was signing his first contract on Jan. 23 and played three games with the Spurs. He is known for his ability to protect the rim and a defense specialist in the paint.

In his three games with the Spurs, he only averaged 1.3 points and 1.7 rebounds and playing an average 5.3 minutes. Regardless his limited playing time, his presence on the court has enhanced the defensive end of Spurs which suffered following the injury of Gasol . Something which he has has exhibited during his nine years of career in the NBA.

According to San Antonio Express News, the Spurs make a sensible decision to extend his contract. In the short term, Anthony can provide depth in the Spurs defense until Gasol recover from the surgery to fix fracture in his left ring finger.

Prior to join the Spurs, Anthony had been with the San Antonio Spurs last October during the pre-season games ahead of 2016-17 season. He did not make it to the list of roster of San Antonio Spurs in the regular season. However, he was the first one to call when the Spurs need a player to beef up their defense.

The 37-year old player went undrafted in the 2007 NBA Draft, but he later signed a one-year contract with Miami Heat. He delivered a solid game in Miami which extended his contract and he spent his first seven years in Miami’s American Airlines Arena.
