"Tokyo Ghoul" is an extremely popular manga and anime series and fans want more anime adaptation after it ended in 2015. Although there is news about the series' going back in anime format, the premiere date is still unknown making fans speculate on the real reason of the delay.
Delayed Until 2017 for more Materials
The last news on series renewal on "Tokyo Ghoul" was through when-will where it was confirmed that the anime was indeed renewed for another season and its set to premiere in 2016. However, with no news on the premiere date, the series is most likely delayed until 2017.
One of the rumored reasons for the delay is the lack of materials to work on for another 12-episode run. The last two season of "Tokyo Ghoul" each had 12 episodes and the upcoming season should be no different.
The current title of the supernatural manga series is "Tokyo Ghoul:re" and it continues the story of Ken Kaneki at the hands of CCG. It is currently on its 6th story arc with 105 chapters - enough episodes for another series.
Focus on Live Action Film
But even with enough story arcs and chapters in the manga, there is another reason why the third season could be delayed. According to Anime News Network, the live action adaptation of the popular manga and anime is set to premiere summer of 2017. A poster image was even released signifying that film is indeed coming.
The image shows Ken Kaneki (played by Masataka Kubota) donning is familiar ghoul mask. The image doesn't show his transformed eye which means the film might tackle the early days of the main character before and after he became a ghoul.
It would be months before fans could hear any news on the anime's third season but a live action adaptation in 2017 could provide another venue for fans to enjoy.
