Jessy Mendiola is reportedly being eyed to play the role of "Darna" in the upcoming remake of the Filipino classic.
According to PEP, Mendiola is open to the idea of playing the role of Darna, but it's something that hasn't been finalized yet.
Just recently, director Erik Matti of Star Cinema and Reality Entertainment released a photo of girl wearing a red hood. At that time he said that the actress wearing the apparel is the next Darna.
Coincidentally, Mendiola also shared a photo of herself wearing a red hoodie, and her fans couldn't help but speculate that she's the newest Darna of the Philippines.
Unfortunately, the "You're My Home" star said that it was all just a coincidence.
"I am very flattered! And I have to be honest about it! It has been one of my dream roles ever since. But when you post something online, kahit pa siguro nakatalikod ako, or nakahiga ako somewhere or kumakain ako, yun pa rin yung comment na Darna nga daw," she said.
(But when you post something online, regardless if it's just of your back, you lying down or eating, fans would still comment that I'm the next Darna).
Meanwhile, Mendiola said that she's open to the idea of auditioning for the role because like she previously said, it's her dream to play Darna. The actress added that auditioning isn't an issue because that's how it's really supposed to be if she wants to play the part.
In other news, director Matti previously said that it would be a challenge for them to find the next Darna who will replace actress Angel Locsin.
With this, Mendiola said that she's willing to go through the process of becoming the next big TV character.
"I think, may proper training naman yung character, saka proper workshop and guidance," she said.
(I think there will be proper training for the character, as well as proper workshop and guidance).
Mendiola added that she also knows that becoming the next Darna means that she also has to be able to give life to the character's personality and not just be like her in terms of looks and appearance.
