So, Chuckie might be real all along.  The myth of the Doll Island in Mexico, otherwise known as la Isla de las Muñecas revolves on a certain man named Don Julian Santana Barrera. He lived in the isolated island enclosed by the Xochimilco canal system along with the dolls of different sorts.

According to the legend, Don Julian as he was called, found a floating girl's dead body near the island he made home. It is uncertain though if the encounter truly exists since there was no proof that the man discovered a dead body. Many opined that he just dreamed up the horrific occurrence.

Anyhow, his answer to the vision was very accurate. Shortly after discovering the tragic demise of the poor child, he saw a doll in the water. In respect to the dead girl's spirit, the hermit put the toy in the nearby tree which is also his way of protecting his home from more tragedy, revealed The Lineup.

However, just a doll would not suffice. The next day, another doll was washed near to his home one after another. He then collected them and hangs them in the trees. Mutilated parts were tied to branches with string and wire. There are instances that he clothed them in scrap glasses or thrown away clothes.

The Island of the Dolls or La Isla de las Muñecas is situated in the canal system of Xochimilco, a two-hour trip to south of Mexico City. The name of the place obviously got its name from the dolls that were hanged almost anywhere. It was a tradition that Don Julian started.

The hermit was reported to die the same way the young girl died believed to be a tourist. Rogelio Sanchez Santana, which is his great nephew, keeps the tradition of collecting old and broken dolls, according to Konbini.

He said, "Her spirit came to scare him and bring sadness, and so to chase her away he brought these dolls that he found in the canals and the trash. They were to protect him."

Locals believe that the spirits which haunt the island could be that of Don Julian, the little girl or the scary dolls themselves. Rogelio stated that the spirits in fact appeared to him but has could not understand what does that mean.
