Drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman could be flying to the United States prison early next year. The world's most wanted drug kingpin will face different charges ranging from drug trafficking to murder.

Mexico's national security commissioner, Renato Sales Heredia told Televisa in an interview that extradition might take place either in January or February. He added that "El Chapo" is definitely not running anything from prison and is not a five-star hotel. Due to Guzman's repeated prison break, the Sinaloa drug cartel chief is under close observation, abc NEWS reported.

Currently, Guzman is being detained in the greatest extent of Ciudad Juarez's security prison which lies near the US border. He was recaptured in January after six months of hiding following his jailbreak through a jail cell tunnel. He once escaped a tight security before and become at large for 13 years.

BBC noted that when it came to Guzman's lawyers' knowledge about the US extradition, Jose Refugio Rodriguez said that there will be too several appeals in the works for the extradition to take place as soon as possible.

"That's not enough time," Mr. Rodriguez said, adding that the only way to send Guzman to the US by early next year would be "to take him out [of jail] by force".

It was previously reported that in May, a Mexican judge ruled that Guzman might get extradited to the US to face charges which includes kidnapping, drug trafficking, murder and money laundering.

Meanwhile, "El Chapo" claimed last month that he was being tortured in prison and receives abusive treatments. His lawyers already filed complaints that their client was not allowed to sleep and socialize with other inmates aside from not getting sufficient visits. They are also worried that Guzman might get addicted to the medication he is taking to maintaining his blood pressure.
