Nina Dobrev said that she and Ian Somerhalder, her ex-boyfriend and on-screen partner in the CW series "The Vampire Diaires," remain friends despite their break-up.

Contrary to what rumors say, the two did not have a bad break up and it was a mutual decision for them to move on with their lives. Dobrev said that prior to dating for three years, she and Somerhalder were good friends, and their bond did not change amidst the break-up. She also said that they were professional actors so their personal issues were off when it came to acting.

According to Morning News USA, Dobrev exited the show after Somerhalder dated Reed. Reports claim that their friendship started to dwindle so she wanted to distance herself; however, "The Vampire Diaries" actress clarified that she left the show due to personal reasons and not because she felt bad about Somerhalder dating Reed.

The same source also reported that the issue regarding their sour relationship also escalated due to speculations that Dobrev wanted Somerhalder to exit the show after Season 8. But the actor already expressed his plans on leaving the show prior to news that Dobrev was returning.

Meanwhile, Julie Plec already told TV Line during a previous interview that she and the actress had already agreed that she would return to the final episode to give justice to her character. However, due to the significant drop in the shows rating, obviously resulting from Dobrev's absence, Plec said that plans could change and she just may return for good to save the show.

"The Vampire Diaries'" will be returning to CW on Oct. 21.
