The new film by Martin Scorsese, 'Silence', is set to be his longest film so far and it is said that it will have a running time of 3 hours and 15 minutes. It is little longer than one of his recent films The Wolf of Wall Street, which only had 3 hours. This is a passion project for Scorsese as he has been working on the material to make it to production for 20 years.

The film is based on a novel by a Japanese author, Shūsaku Endō. The plot of the story is set to revolve around about Catholic Jesuit priests going through a pilgrimage in Japan. The cast includes Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam driver. It will also be featuring Tadanobu Asano, Ciarán Hinds, Shinya Tsukamoto, Yōsuke Kubozuka and Issey Ogata. The production had a little bit of a problem looking for the location of the set mainly because the setting of the film takes place in 1670.

Irwin Winkler, producer of the film, told The Hollywood Reporter that "It was very, very expensive, and it was budgeted, because it takes place in 1670 in Japan. We got lucky and found out about Taipei, and in and around Taipei and Taiwan, we found great, great locations. The prices were very cheap, and we were able to make it for a price".

However, this would not be the first time if the studio would let Scorsese cut down the running time for his own film. His original running time for his previous film, 'Gangs of New York', was supposed to clock in at about 3 hours and 36 minutes. Harvey Weinstein convinced him to trim down the film to 2 hours and 47 minutes.

So far there is no trailer or release date for the film yet but it is however, in plans to push it for an earlier release date at around November or December so that it could make it as a contender for the 2017 Oscar, according to Showbiz411.
