During Gamescom 2016 at Cologne, Germany, Square Enix has announced that the upcoming game "Nier: Automata" will not be released for Xbox One and Nintendo NX. However, initially planned for released for the PlayStation 4, the game will also be released on Steam for the PC early next year.

In an interview with DualShockers, Square Enix Producer Yosuke Saito explained that if "Nier: Automata" becomes successful, ports for Xbox One and NX would be possible. On the other hand, the company has been considering the Steam for the PC for a long time, which will also be developed by  PlatinumGames.

Based in Osaka, Japan, PlatinumGames has been responsible for developing games like "Vanquish" and the "Bayonetta" series. Players can expect the same quality gameplay for this new game.

According to VICE Gaming, there will be subtle nods to "Nier", but players are not really required to play the previous game to enjoy the story and gameplay. They will get to play 2B, a female battle android sent down to Earth to take it back from the alien machines.

The game will be action packed, as previous PlatinumGames titles such as the "Bayonetta" series and "Vanquish" were made out to be. However, Saito stressed that the game will be more story-paced than pure action.

Like most RPGs being released nowadays, "Nier: Automata" will have a vast world for players to play in, even having vehicles to be available to scale the environments in the final game. Saito, however, made it clear that the players will still focus on the central quest, in spite of the exploration aspects.
