The recently formed Korean boy band iKON of YG Entertainment is uncomfortable of being compared to Bigbang, one of the top Korean boy bands. It was confirmed when they were interviewed at Seogyo-dong, Seoul last Tuesday in a coffee shop.
Since iKON and Bigbang were produced by the same entertainment company, it's no longer a taboo that the Korean bands received comments from the fans about their music. B.I, the producer as well as the leader of the iKON quoted "BigBang's music covers many genres, though. They told us we should not follow their musical path, according to The Korean Times."
B.I confessed that a lot of people are indeed comparing their music with Bigbang but he considered it as an honor instead. He added that though they still lack experience, they will try hard to walk a different path than that of the BigBang's. He also admitted that his own music preference was also influenced by Bigbang and that led him to produce music for iKon.
On the other hand, rumors spread that the CEO of the company handling the bands, Yang Hyuk Suk, favored iKon over Bigbang. "We just focus on what we are working on at the moment," Yang stated as posted in soompi. "The opinion that I favor iKON is a complete misunderstanding."
The CEO also said the rumors regarding the delayed album of BigBang is caused by iKON is completely a nonsense. He furthermore added that even though iKON is promoting, it doesn't mean that Bigbang cannot promote.
Everything is a big misunderstanding regarding both the band's music genre and style. Yet iKon is determined to pursue their own music and take their own path in the music industry.
