The post-apocalyptic TV series "The Last Ship" has been renewed for a fourth season, and fans can expect the drama to be bigger in scope and scale when it returns next year.
According to Deadline, TV network TNT made the renewal announcement during the Television Critics Association press tour. The fourth season will have 13 episodes and will be aired some time in summer of 2017.
Currently, "The Last Ship" is still airing the second half of Season 3, but its conclusion could be the starting point for the next season's plot.
"We're always trying to finish everything and find what's next," Yibada quotes executive producer Steven Kane as saying. "It's a daunting task to start over again but at the same time, there's a very organic progression. The show gets bigger in scale and scope as the problems get bigger in scale and scope. I look at the way this season ends as a great opportunity to start season 4."
Season 3 Episode 9 titled "Eutopia," aired on Aug. 14, showed Chandler, Sasha, Wolf, and Danny in an abandoned military base called Paraiso. The latter learned that there is another factory on the island, not just the sewing factory they were shown, and they went there to investigate. What they found is an assembly line for the anti-cure substance, and they surmised that the next target is likely to be Korea.
Meanwhile, Kara was trying to find some information in the White House. She suspected that Rivera had something to do with the transmissions but then, she witnessed his and a senator's assassination in the parking garage.
According to same article on Yibada, Chandler will have to make a difficult decision in Episode 10. Former vice president Howard Oliver, who took over the presidency after the death of Michener, is speculated to be the one who will issue an order to Chandler, thus putting the latter in a hard situation.
"The Last Ship" Season 3 Episode 10 titled "Scuttle" will be aired on Aug. 21; Episode 11, "Legacy," on Aug. 28; Episode 12, "Resistance," on Sept. 4; and the season finale, "Don't Look Back," on Sept. 11.
