Known director Feng Xiaogang from the Chinese mainland scooped top recognition at the Golden Horse Awards for his performance in the movie "Mr. Six". The awards night was held last Saturday in Taipei.

Director Guan Hu and producer Wang Zhonglei admittedly wanted to get Feng to lead the screencast. Since the popular director Feng also had an acting background and has been in some movies taking secondary roles, they knew that he could fill in the role for "Mr. Six".

Guan and Huayi Brothers Media asked Feng to read the script for the company just to appraise it. However, Guan's real motive is to lure Feng in taking the role. Once Feng started reading the script, he admitted that he couldn't put it down.

"You seldom get to see a story like this... a story about the good old days and values that transcends time and space," Feng said. The famous director ended up getting the lead role and has now won the best leading actor for it.

The film is about a former gang leader, in his 50s, who was forced to go back in becoming a gang leader as his son is kidnapped by a younger group of hoodlums. The conflict sees the old versus the new as it will also bring its viewers a trip down memory lane.

The film was shot in Beijing's narrow alleyways that were torn down to make way for modern developments in the city.  The movie is also considered old-fashion as it gives insights on the life of the old gang leader.

However, the film is also a way for two generations of Chinese actors to be part of one film, as director Fing shares the screen with Xu Qing and Zhang Hanyu. The action drama is a feel good movie that will make most think about friendship, family, and good values.
