With Liz coming out alive and Kirk revealing that he is her father, The Blacklist Season 4 is up for more complex revelations on the Kirk-Liz-Red connections as it premieres on Sept. 22 on NBC.

In an interview with  Entertainment Weekly, Executive producers Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath promised that Alexander Kirk and his relationship to Liz will ultimately give us a far deeper understanding of Red's relationship with Liz in The Blacklist Season 4.

Bokenkamp and Eisendrath added that the complexities will focus on Kirk claiming to be the lady protagonist's father and convincing her that she should be aware of Red. When asked whether Liz can trust Kirk or not, Eisendrath wittingly responded, "I don't know why we wouldn't believe him. Red's said before that he's not Liz's father. This man shows up in her life and says he's her father. Liz should take him at his word. She thought she shot her father. It raises a number of questions, which is going to be the joy of season 4."

However, according to them, one thing is for sure: Red will be driving the story especially since he was devastated that he had been lied to, and at the same time relieved, that Liz is still alive.

In another spoiler of the story, rumor has it that Kirk might just be the ultimate bad guy in the next season, but this has been contradicted by Eisendrath. In his statement given to Entertainment Weekly, the executive producer gave vague details that Kirk may not be the big villain to look forward to in The Blacklist Season 4. With this, fans can only assume that Red should not be crossed out of the list of bad-guys-to-be, especially since he remains to be a mysterious character.

In the upcoming season, Liz is caught in a big loop between Red and Kirk, with a lot of issues on who she can trust who. However, according to Eisendrath, being caught in this situation will push her to be "more inclined and more ready to face some of the truths that subconsciously she was unwilling to face in the first few years."

Meanwhile, it is said that if Liz opts to trust Red, it will be hard for the latter to trust her back. According to The BitBag, the fact that Liz lied to Red by faking her death will make the latter more suspicious.

The Blacklist Season 4 is expected to return on Sept. 22 on NBC.
