‘Goblin’ wins big at the 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards; Gong Yoo gets emotional during acceptance speech [WATCH]

"Goblin" won the highest recognition at the 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards!

The tvN drama was given the Grand Prize (TV) award during the awarding ceremony held Wednesday, May 3.  The fantasy series, helmed by Kim Eun Sook, received so much love and support from K-drama fans all over the world for its casting and impressive storyline.

"Goblin" starred Gong Yoo, Lee Dong Wook, Kim Go Eun, Yoo In Na, and Yook Sung Jae. Similarly, the Goblin himself was recognized at this year's Baeksang Arts Awards for his acting in the hit drama.

During his acceptance speech for the Best Actor award, Gong Yoo turned emotional while apologizing to his mother for failing to visit her most of the time due to his hectic schedules.

"My mother sometimes gets disappointed and tells me that it feels like her son has become someone else's son," he said as per Soompi. "It's all because I haven't been good to her."

The "Train to Busan" actor competed against Namgoong Min (Good Manager), Han Suk Kyu (Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim), Jo Jung Suk (Jealousy Incarnate), and Park Bo Gum (Love in the Moonlight) for the said category.

Following the success of "Goblin," Gong Yoo recently expressed his desire to play a different role in the future. The Hallyu actor said he would like to challenge himself by taking a villainous role for his next project.

"I've always played relatively upright roles, so now I want to try out the role of a lazy and ungainly person. A crazy person sounds good, too," he stated.

Meanwhile, most fans were expecting that the Gong Yoo-led series will win the Best Drama award given its amass popularity here and abroad. However, "Dear My Friends" bagged the award bagged the award against "Goblin," "Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim," "W - Two Worlds" and "Love in the Moonlight."
