Atlanta Hawks is in need of the point guard to manage their gameplay on court. One of the target is Jose Calderon who was just waived by the Golden State Warriors few days earlier to free space for Matt Barnes.

Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer insisted the final spot in the 15-player roster in the Hawks must be filled by the true point guard. Currently, his scouting team is looking into the possible player in the international, NBA Development League and buyout markets.

“We are still constantly looking at the list,” Coach Budenholzer said on Wednesday, March 1, as reported by Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He added, “We haven’t made a decision, but it’s a pretty constant dialogue.”

Calderon is the most possible option for Hawks to acquire. The Spanish national team point guard was waived by Golden State Warriors within just two hours after he signed the contract. The Warriors prioritize to sign Matt Barnes to fill-in the vacant position left by the injured Kevin Durant.

In his two hours stint with the Warriors, Calderon was paid $415,000, Washington Post reported. He signed the contract on Wednesday evening March 1 at 6:06 p.m. and the Warriors announced his waiver at 8:05 p.m.

Calderon is the veteran point guard that has been playing for five different teams in his 12 years of career in the league. He was first signed with Toronto Raptors in 2005 and helped Toronto Raptors to enter playoffs for two consecutive seasons in 2007 and 2008. He was later traded to Detroit Pistons in 2013 and played for Pistons for two seasons before joining Dallas Mavericks for one season, followed by two season in New York Knicks and a half season in LA with the Lakers.

The 6’3” point guard is the pure point guard with exceptional ability to make play and distribute the ball. He will be the point guard that is needed for team like Hawks after LAkers waived him on Feb. 27.
