"Hacksaw Ridge" veteran actor Mel Gibson has been eyed for "Daddy's Home 2" with "Elf" comedian Will Ferrell and "The Martian" actor Mark Wahlberg. His Hollywood comeback is now complete.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures has made an official offer to Gibson to star with the previously announced cast members Ferrell and Wahlberg in "Daddy's Home 2." "Miss Sloane" actor John Lithgow also has an offer to join the cast.

Ferrell (Brad Taggart) and Wahlberg (Dusty Mayron) will return to reprise their roles from the first 2015 hit film "Daddy's Home." The follow-up "Daddy's Home 2" will bring back the two types of warring fathers, which are the strong alpha male and the sensitive caring type. But this time the palette is expanding to include an older generation.

If offers are accepted and deals made for "Daddy's Home 2," Gibson and Lithgow would be that older generation. Sean Anders will return behind the camera and was the director of the first film, Variety reported. He will also co-write the script with John Morris.

The original film "Daddy's Home" grossed $240.4 million globally despite being released in the shadow of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The combination of a Ferrell and Wahlberg headlined the 2010 hit "The Other Guys."

Just how contentious Gibson was is best encapsulated by "The Hangover: Part II." He was going to do a cameo appearance in the 2011 movie, but a backlash within the studio and parts of the cast ended with him being unceremoniously dropped. He was replaced by Liam Neeson.

As a director, Gibson also helmed the 2016 World War II drama "Hacksaw Ridge" for Lionsgate, which has made $163 million worldwide. He has been nominated for six Oscars, including one for best director. As for his acting career, he most recently appeared in "The Expendables 3" and "Blood Father."

Lithgow has a busy 2016 since he starred in the film "Miss Sloane" and the television series "The Crown." His role as Winston Churchill in the latter earned him the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.

"Daddy's Home 2" will debut in theaters on Nov. 10.
