"True Detective" Season 3 might happen after all, as recently teased by HBO's Chief of Programming Casey Bloys. However, the instalment may not arrive anytime soon.
HBO is not rushing to make "True Detective" Season 3. However, the good news is that the network is open to the idea of making it happen. Bloys hinted the return of the crime series on air during an interview at the Television Critics Association (TCAs) press tour.
"I don't have anything on paper yet but I know there are some ideas going back and forth. I don't want to do anything just to get it on the air," Den of Geek quoted Bloys as saying.
In the same press interview, Bloys assured that he and showrunner Nic Pizzolatto are open to the idea of making "True Detective" Season 3 happen. The fate of the instalment now lies on Pizzolatto's hands.
Bloys is not the only person who expressed his confidence that the show will have a third season. Matthew McConaughey reportedly also believes that "True Detective" Season 3 is a possibility. He suggested that fans may need to be a little more patient though, since Pizzolatto's is still on break following the poor reception for Season 2.
Likewise, HBO president Michael Lombardo offered the same confidence that the network will push through with "True Detective" Season 3. Lombardo believes in the showrunner's talent and skills to entice viewers. He already gave the go signal for Pizzolatto to continue with the third season back in 2015, according to Screener TV.
Regardless, the fate of "True Detective" Season 3 may lie on a new writer. Bloys said in the same interview at the TCAs that HBO might hire a new screenwriter to pen the instalment. Pizzolatto, on the other hand, will still be attached to the show but only to supervise it.
