There was supposed to be video game centered on one of the villains in the "Star Wars" universe - Darth Maul. Recently, reports tell of a bunch of new artwork for the cancelled "Star Wars: Maul" have been surfaced by the official artist for the game.

According to IGN, it was stated back then in 2014 that developer Red Fly was on working on a "Star Wars" game that starred the tattooed red-skinned Sith Lord from "Episode I: The Phantom Menace" and who also made a more a recent appearance in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." The "Star Wars: Maul" was supposed to take inspiration from "Batman: Arkham Asylum" in terms of being a stealth-action game, but was eventually cancelled in 2011.

Thanks to Game Informer, we were able to know that it was artist professional artist Thomas A. Szakolczay who did the art and was able to share his masterpieces online here at ArtStation.com. His portfolio showcased concept images of characters, storyboards and even in-game holographic advertising.

"Back in 2011, I was fortunate enough to work with Lucas Arts and Redfly Studios to help develop the look direction for a new Star Wars IP that centered around Darth Maul," mentions Szakolczay. "It took place in a future time line sometime after Return of the Jedi and was meant to have a darker, grittier tone."

"Unfortunately the project was conceived around the same time as the Disney acquisition," continued the artist. "It was cancelled after 1 year of development. Definitely dream of getting the opportunity to work on another Star Wars related project, so much fun!"

Red Fly developer Dan Borth actually confirmed back then in 2015 in a Reddit AMA that he wanted to bring the "Star Wars: Maul" back one day. So it's not really a lost cause for all "Star Wars" fans!

In the meantime, IGN made a fan (yet, an April Fool's parody) trailer for a fake Netflix show, "Fury of Maul" shown below:
