Lee byung-hun mostly played unusual characters like gangster roles in the past. This time, the actor will play an ordinary, married man in his role for the homegrown film "A Single Rider."
During an interview with the press at Seoul Cinema on Monday, Jan. 16, Lee byung-hun shared what drew him to his character Jae-hoon. The other cast members such as Gong Hyo-Jin and An Sohee were also there along with the film director to share their thoughts about the upcoming film.
Lee byung-hun said the movie will deal with ordinary lives and emotions. He as an actor strives to follow Jae-hoon's mentality and observe those small emotions can be delivered to the audience.
"A Single Rider" will follow the lives of a promising fund manager and his wife, Variety has learned. The man became suspicious of his wife's adultery and started watching her from a distance only to confront a shocking truth that shatters what he has stood for.
Gong Hyo-jin, who portrays the wife in the movie shared that she chose the film because it has a plain character. This is quite contrary from her previous roles in films like "Crush and Blush" and "Missing" where she played very strong characters as the female lead.
Meanwhile, "Train to Busan" actress An Sohee will play a Korean college student who stays in Australia on a working holiday visa. She will ask for help from Jae-hoon's in the film.
According to Yonhap News, "A Single Rider" director Lee Joo-young was also there to share the reasons why she created the movie. She narrated that she was in a male-dominant working environment in her previous. She witnessed how the men lived an ostensibly stable life but she wondered if they were truly happy.
This inspired the director to come up with "A Single Rider," her debut film. Lee Joo-young also penned the film.
"A Single Rider" will be released in South Korea on Feb. 22. It serves as the second Korean-language film produced by Warner Bros. M-Line Distribution picked up the international rights to the movie.
