Lee Joon Gi reveals he initially declined role in ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’

Lee Joon Gi discusses role in the Hollywood film "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter." The movie stars Hollywood actress Mila Jovovich.

During the press conference for his new movie on Jan. 13, the 34-year old actor revealed, "First, I was very surprised by the offer. It's the last chapter of a very important series, so I worried a lot about whether I could be a help or not... I remember politely rejecting the offer at first to the director," Allkpop reported.

The actor continued that action scenes were even re-checked by the director before mailing it back to him with the offer. Lee expressed that he was so honored and concluded the decision with a grateful mind in hopes to become a help to the series even with a small role.

Director Paul W.S Anderson also revealed that he decided to cast Lee in the film as he is the perfect opponent of Jovovich. He added that because of their great chemistry on set, he only needs to set up the cameras and filming was completed fabulously.

Further, Jovovich and Lee will met at the end part of the series, but Anderson assures that they will be cast together in his again. "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is the sixth and will be the last installation of the "Resident Evil" film series.

The film was first released in Japan last Dec. 23, 2016, according to IMDb. The film is based on the Capcom survival horror video game series with the same title.

In the film, Alice (Jovovich) and her friends are betrayed by Albert Wesker, who gathers the entire forces of Umbrella into one final strike against the apocalypse survivors. The film is slated for release in the United States on Jan. 27 and will be available in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D.
