"Charlotte's Web" voice actress Reba McEntire is set to star in an untitled series from "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry. ABC emerged as the network for the potential series.

According to Deadline, McEntire will star as the mercurial Kentucky sheriff in the untitled ABC series. Cherry will serve as creator and director.

The untitled hourlong ABC series from Cherry is described as a Southern Gothic soap opera set in motion after a horrible and suspected act of terrorism happens at the Fourth of July parade in the small town of Oxblood, Kentucky. The Federal Bureau Investigation sends a cocky agent of Middle Eastern descent to investigate and he teams up with the mercurial local sheriff to uncover secrets far darker than either could have ever imagined, Variety reported.

Cherry will also serve as executive producer of his untitled ABC series with his producing partner Sabrina Wind via their Cherry-Wind Productions banner. McEntire, Mindy Schultheis, and Michael Hanel of Acme Productions are on board to executive produce as well.

The untitled ABC series marks McEntire's return to TV after her sitcom "Reba" on The WB and The CW. In addition to that, the country music superstar also had her return to ABC after her short-lived show "Malibu Country" with Shultheis and Hanel as executive producers.

On the other hand, the untitled ABC series marks Cherry's reunion with the network that was home to his award-winning comedy "Desperate Housewives." Following that series, he created "Devious Maids" on Lifetime that was produced by ABC Studios and ended its four-season-run in the summer of 2016.

Cherry's untitled ABC series is his second consecutive development season selling to a broadcast network. He also created a pilot in 2015 to which The CW picked up, but it never went to series. The TV writer and producer worked on a "Phantom of the Opera" reboot last development season which never came to fruition.

The untitled ABC series has been put into development at ABC. The project has no release date yet.
