"Criminal Minds" has recruited "Sons of Anarchy" actor Harold Perrineau to guest star on its current twelfth season.

In a report from TV Line, it was announced that Perrineau is set for a major recurring role on "Criminal Minds" Season 12. The actor has been tapped to play Calvin Shaw, a former FBI agent incarcerated for killing one of his informants. On his first episode (slated to air later this winter), he will have a run-in with a BAU agent where the team "must determine whether he's a friend or foe," the site revealed.

Perrineau's other TV credits include "Lost," "Constantine," "The Mysteries of Laura," "Z Nation" and "Growing Up Fisher." He recently starred on Amazon's new series "Goliath" as Judge Keller.

In 2016, "Criminal Minds" has gone through a major cast shakeup following the abrupt dismissal of actor Thomas Gibson. To fill in for his void, the series has added Adam Rodriguez as Agent Luke Alvez and Damon Gupton as Agent Stephen Walker. Paget Brewster, who exited in Season 11, also returned as a series regular to reprise her role as Emily Prentiss.

Shemar Moore, who played fan favorite character Morgan, exited the series early last year to pursue other opportunities as an actor.

"I need balance in my life," Moore said in a statement in March.

"I love what I do for a living, I love it from 'action' to 'cut', but I also want to walk my dogs, travel, get married, have kids. I want balance, and it's hard to do with the schedule that we have."

Next week, "Criminal Minds" returns for a new episode. Titled "Seek and Destroy," viewers will find the BAU investigating a series of home invasions in upscale neighborhoods in San Diego where casualties are involved.

"Criminal Minds" hails from series creator Erica Messer. It also stars Joe Mantegna, Matthew Gray Gubler, AJ Cook, Aisha Tyler, and Kristen Vangsness.
