Lee Jong Suk won the Grand Prize (Daesang) at the 2016 MBC Drama Awards but he failed to win the hearts of Korean netizens. Many criticized the "W" actor for his short acceptance speech after receiving the highest honor at the award ceremony on Dec. 30, Friday.
Lee's speech went on for about 40 seconds, during which he expressed his gratitude to certain people before thanking his fans. The MC pushed him to say something more, after which he spoke about how he had popped a couple relaxation pills and was feeling a bit sleepy. The speech did not go down well with netizens, who accused the actor of being rude.
"Wow...to someone like him...Daesang? Did you guys watch him do the acceptance speech???" All Kpop quoted a netizen as saying. "Look at all these fans defending him, saying that he has a phobia of being in the center of the attention," commented another netizn. "Even if that's actually true, it's a daesang. Surely he can muster up a bit more things to say...It's rude to be so curt."
The actor has now taken to social media to respond to the negative comments and explain the reason behind his brief acceptance speech. "I think it's the first time I was this nervous my whole life," he captioned the post. "I wasn't able to thank every single person I am thankful toward, so I don't think I expressed my thanks properly."

The actor added that he will not forget the love and support he has been showered with and will continue to work hard in order to to repay the weight of the award with a humble attitude, as Soompi cited. He concluded the post by saying thanks one last time and wishing everyone a Happy New Year.
