On Jan. 25, list of the prestigious Padma Awards 2016 was unveiled. The list includes the names of 112 personalities from distinguished fields to be awarded with Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards. "Quantico" actress is one of the 83 people to be honoured with Padma Shri by the Government of India for their contribution in various fields. 

According to Hindustan Times, Chopra is "elated" to receive a Padma award. In an interview, the Bollywood actress said that the news came as a surprise to her. "I am the daughter of two army officers and it's extremely exciting for me," Priyanka said as quoted by the abovementioned publication.

The 33-year-old actress, who recently made her debut in Hollywood with "Quantico," is a daughter of Madhu (mother) and Ashok (father) Chopra who were doctors in the Indian army. Priyanka said that she did not expect that she will be one of the selected ones for the award, which is the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India.

"I was not expecting it at all. I just read about it in the news a couple of days ago... then my mom got to know about it and she told me. I am so glad she is here with me!" she says," Priyanka added.

The "Bajirao Mastani" actress said that she is "extremely excited" and "humble" to receive the honour.

"It's one of the highest civilian honours of our country. And to be recognised by the government for the work that you have done and your contribution to the nation is a wonderful feeling. I am extremely humble and very excited."

In addition, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan will be receiving the award. Rajnikanth, Anupam Kher, Naresh Chander Lal, Late Shri Saeed Jaffrey are some other personalities from the field of cinema to receive Padma awards.

Priyanka is still in Montreal where she is filming the second part of her American television show "Quantico." In the ABC's newest television drama, Priyanka plays the role of leading character Alex Parrish, who is suspected to be involved in terrorist bombings.

So how will Priyanka celebrate for Padma Shri honour? Speaking to IANS (via News X), Priyanka said she'll "get back to work."

"That's how I celebrate... I work," Priyanka said.
