The management of Sacramento Kings fined DeMarcus Cousins $50,000 after his confrontation with reporter. The Kings stated that they have a clear set of standards of conduct for the organization. Therefore, the management will not tolerate behavior like Cousins exhibited.

Cousins was reported to berated Sacramento Bee reporter Andy Furillo in the locker room, according to USA Today. He was angry because Furillo wrote about the night club incident involving Cousins and his brother Jaleel and launched verbal assasult on Furillo.

The 6’11” center is known for his nasty temper aside of his talent and performance on court. Following the incident, the Kings management fined him a substantial amount of $50,000 for the incident and there will be no suspension against him. The Sacramento Kings in a statement stated that they want the member of the Kings to maintain the organizational standards of conduct.

As a result of negative interactions with certain members of the media that were not corrected after verbal warnings, we have decided to impose a substantial fine,” the statement read. “If this behavior is repeated again, we will be forced to consider further discipline.”

Subsequently Cousins have also issued an apology for his inappropriate behavior. But according to Sacramento Bee, the Kings have tolerated the boorish behavior of him. Moreover, Sacramento Kings have become the enabler of his behavior.

Since he was drafted by the Kings in 2010, Cousins has been treated special by the management. There have been too many changes of coaches in the Kings just to appease Cousins. Whenever he had disagreement with the coach, Sacramento Kings took his side and let the coach go.

Paul Westphal, Michael Malone, George Karl are coaches who had been trying to work with Cousins to make the Kings a better team. But neither of them are successful to contain his ego because the Kings are afraid of losing their star player. The incident with Sacramento Bee reporter and its aftermath showed precisely that the Kings management have been the enabler of Cousins’ behavior.
