Banana Culture Entertainment today announced that EXID's leader, Solji will have to rest for an indefinite time.
According to the statement translated from Koreaboo, "EXID Solji was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She has been suffering from multiple symptoms including fever and the protrusion of her eyes. After a detailed checkup specialized doctors confirmed that she has hyperthyroidism."
The entertainment company also added that they decided to let Solji rest for a while to focus on her recovery. And that she will miss the scheduled award shows while LE, Hani, Hyelin and Junghwa will continue to perform as a four-member group.
The Tribun Style stated that the effects of the disease cause loss of weight, severe fatigue, constant quivering, fever, and swollen eyes. The illness could also promote infertility among women in some cases.
Hyperthyroidism or overactive thyroid is a state where there is too much production of thyroid glands. The condition can increase the body's metabolism drastically leading to weight loss, either rapid or irregular beating of the heart, sweating, anxiety, or irritability.
However, the disease can be treated easily if diagnosed earlier with different treatment options. Anti-thyroid medications together with radioactive iodine slow down the production of thyroid hormones. There are instances where there is a need for surgery to get rid of all the affected parts.
