"Riverdale," the upcoming series based on the Archie comics, has recruited Molly Ringer to join its season 1 cast.

Deadline reported that "The Breakfast Club" actress has been tapped to play the role of Archie's mother, Mary Andrews. The site reveals that viewers will find Mary going back to Riverdale due to a family crisis after leaving the town two years ago to pursue her dreams.

"She not only reconnects with Archie and her husband, Fred, but also her former high school gal-pals Hermione and Alice, just in time for a Homecoming Dance," teased the casting report.

"Riverdale" is the CW's contemporary and dark take on the popular Archie comics which will follow the characters of Archie, Betty, and Veronica as they navigate their small-town lives within the mysterious setting of Riverdale. It stars KJ Apa as Archie, Lili Reinhart as Betty, Camila Mendes as Veronica, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Madalaine Petsch as Cheryl and Ashleigh Murray as Josie.

The series hails from prolific producer Greg Berlanti, who also serves as the showrunner of the CW's superhero shows. Its creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, is known for his works on other TV shows including, "Supergirl," "Glee" and "Looking." On films, he penned the script of the 2013 film, "Carrie" starring Chloe Grace Moretz.

Back in July, Aguirre-Sacasa has teased (via Variety) at a panel in Comic Con that Riverdale Season 1 will delve on the big mystery behind what happened to Jason Blossom.

"We're going to follow all the twists and turns of that but of course it's 'Archie,' it's 'Riverdale,' it's the CW," the showrunner said.

"There's going to be a lot of romances and I can tell you that most of the people [on this panel] will become involved with each other, including Kevin (Keller), who's not here."

"Riverdale" premieres on Thursday, January 26,2017 at 9PM on the CW.
