"This Is Us" has added a new character on Kate's storyline in the form of Longmire actor Adam Bartley.
In a report from Deadline, it was announced that Bartley will recur on the hit NBC drama as Duke, a guy who works at a local horse stable and support Chrissy Metz' character during a difficult time. Although the casting bit didn't say that he will be a potential new love interest for Kate, there's a chance that these two might just hit it off.
Now that Kate has officially broke things up with Toby because he refuses to lose weight, having Duke enter the scene where Kate is vulnerable is quite the perfect plot to form a love triangle for the trio. Should this theory becomes more viable as the season progresses, Kate is gonna have to make a tough decision for her love life.
On the one hand, she experienced being sprinkled with love and attention by Toby, who is such a perfect gentleman. But his choice not to be on the same page with Kate in terms of being healthy and becoming better versions of themselves has proved to be a deal breaker.
Duke, on the other hand, could be just the guy that Kate needs right now. Viewers have yet to meet him, but the way his character was teased to "support" Kate could be something that may serve as an impetus for Kate to see him as someone who's more than just a friend.
No one knows yet if this is really where Kate's storyline is headed on "This Is Us." But given that the major arc for Kate is to battle weight loss, it would be more interesting if viewers will see her moving outside that struggle from time to time. A love triangle would be a good starting point to do that.
Bartley joins previously cast Alexandra Breckenridge (The Walking Dead) who will play Kate's old pal from childhood.
"This Is Us" airs every Tuesday at 9PM on NBC. It also stars Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Justin Hartley Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan and Ron Cephas Jones.
