"Mr. Robot" actor Christian Slater joins Santiago Mitre's "The Summit" with "Truman" actor Ricardo Darin. The film's title is shaping up as one of the biggest and most-anticipated Latin American productions of the year.

According to Variety, Slater has a small but incisive role in "The Summit." He will play a U.S. governmental official. He arrived on the set in Buenos Aires during the last days of its shooting.

"The Summit" describes a political thriller about a man confronting his inner demons. It tells the story of the Argentina president Hernán Blanco (Darin). Blanco finds himself trapped between politics and his personal life at an international summit high up in the Andes.

In the plot of "The Summit," Blanco is set to discuss regional strategies and geopolitical alliances. He lives a political and family drama that leads him to confront his darkest side. He must make two decisions that could change the course of his life: a difficult emotional situation involving his daughter and the most important political decision of his entire career.

"The Summit" is directed by Cannes' 2015 Critics' Week winner and "Paulina" filmmaker Mitre. It also stars Dolores Fonzi, Erica Rivas, Elena Anaya, and Argentina's Gerardo Romano. Three-time Oscar-nominated Alberto Iglesias is composing the score.

Warner Bros. Pictures acquired rights to Latin America and Spain for "The Summit." Prestigious French indie Memento Films also boarded as a co-producer and French distributor. Film Factory sold it at the American Film Market and Buenos Aires-based K & S as lead-producer.

Slater won the Golden Globe best actor winner this year and currently stars on the critically acclaimed TV series "Mr. Robot," Daily Mail reported. He also serves as a producer on the USA Network show, which is set to premiere its Season 3 next year. He served as a guest co-host with Kelly Ripa on "Live With Kelly" last September.

"The Summit" is produced by La Union de los Rios, Spain's MOD Producciones, and France's Maneki Films. Telefe, Arte France Cinema, and Memento Film Productions co-produce.

"The Summit" wrapped shoot on Oct. 31. It had an eight-week shot in locations in Buenos Aires and Argentina's Bariloche, Santiago de Chile, and Chilean ski-resort Valle Nevado.
