The events in Westworld's most recent outing revealed a major plot twist fans may have already saw coming. In episode 7 titled "Trompe L'Oeil," viewers discovered that one of the key characters working behind the scenes is in fact, a robot himself.

The character in question, Bernard, was introduced in the pilot episode as one of the park's administrators tasked in making sure that the hosts are performing accordingly with their respective storylines. He also has a backstory of his own, as revealed in the previous installments, that he lost his own son in the past. After Sunday's episode of Westworld, the expanding cult followers of HBO's scifi series was taken by surprise when it was revealed that Bernard himself, is a robot created by Anthony Hopkins' character, Robert Ford.

Not only that Bernard's true identity was revealed, the shocking hour also shed light on what he's capable of: killing someone he had sexual relations with under the orders of his creator. With only three episodes away from the season finale, fans of "Westworld" will never see Bernard the same way again. His portrayer, Jeffrey Wright, has given life to the character with such a remarkable performance that blindsided fans worldwide about his true nature.

To address Bernard's impactful transition as faux-human to actual killer robot, co-creator Jonatahan Nolan spoke with Variety where he shared how they educated Wright about his character.

"We told him after the pilot, before episode 2 - not because that was the way we were going with the story, but because we wanted him to be able to play the role as immersively as possible," the showrunner said.

"But we had reasons that I can't get into that dictated we be clear with him about some aspects of his performance. With our actors, for the most part, we try to leave them in the dark as much as possible. With Jeffrey, we had the conversation relatively early."

Moving forward, it was revealed in the plot synopsis that Bernard will struggle to follow a mandate. No one knows yet if he will be ordered again to kill-off someone. However, since viewers already know that he is capable of murder, it's likely that another sinister layer of him will be unveiled.

"Westworld" airs every Sunday at 9Pm on HBO.
