China's state TV blurred the face of Hong Kong actor, Wong Hei on a TV programme title "The Infinite Challenge," following a recent social media post by him which suggested that China's former Prime Minister Zhou Enlai was a homosexual.
According to Global Times the actor's face was purposely pixelated throughout the reality TV programme "The Infinite Challenge." The show features various celebrities who are required to undertake different challenging tasks.
For the latest episode on China Central Television (CCTV) Wong and other stars were posing as fire fighters.
Wong is popular in China for his role as a firefighter in the popular Hong Kong TV series "Burning Flames." However, he was cut out from the "The Infinite Challenge," show following accusations made by an anti-Taiwan independence singer, Huang An who voiced her concerns over Wong's remarks on social media through a microblogging site called Weibo,which is the Chinese equivalent to Twitter.
The self proclaimed independence performer said Wong was blaspheming against Prime Minister Zhou and according to the publication, added that Hei lives and enjoys the mainland life but then condemns it.
What caused the uproar was when Wong shared an article about "The Secret Emotional Life Of Zhou Enlai," a book written by Tsoi Wing Mui. He added a comment to imply that the Premier was a descendant of a Chinese poet Qu Yuan, the Straits Times reported.
According to reports Yuan whose death is marked every year with elaborate festivities during the Dragon Boat Festival in China is a historical figure whose sexual orientation has been a topic of speculation among those in the mainland community for years.
The Singapore newspaper quoted producers of "The Infinite Challenge" show as saying, "If we had known (about Wong), we would not have asked. We would have asked, but not recorded. We would have recorded, but not used. We would have used, but not broadcast."
According to media reports a third of the shoot for "The Infinite Challenge" was planned around Wong, but his scenes were removed during the final cut.
This is not the first time the actor has attracted political attention. On a previous occasion Wong called on a crowd to support Taiwanese singer-songwriter Crowd Lu in a bid to promote Taiwanese independence at a music festivalwhich was later canceled.
