Marvel Comics has been releasing epic events and limited series for quite some time now. Recently, they have just announced the "ResurrXion" X-Men Relaunch, with a return to the "Weapon X" series.

According to Comicbook.com, a teaser was just released that featured Wolverine in the cover, but not just any Wolverine version, but the original one. This is reminiscent of the original "Weapon X" story by Barry Windsor-Smith that showed the origins of Logan and how his skeleton was coated in the indestructible Adamantium.

The teaser also featured other Marvel characters as well such as Deadpool, Sabretooth, X-23, Sauron, and Wildchild. These particular characters have had a past with the clandestine and dark Weapon X program. It is still unsure, however, that these characters will band together in the upcoming series or they're just featured in the teaser image as an indication that they were all part of the weapon enhancing program.

The Weapon X program in the story was actually conceptualized by the Canadian government's Department K that focuses in creating superweapons from human and mutant candidates. For the mutants, they were mostly the focus of the department because of their innate abilities. This is why the department was able to utilize Wolverine's extraordinary healing factor to complete the "Experiment X," which accomplished in imbuing his skeletal frame in Adamantium. As mentioned above, along with Wolverine, other better known candidates involve Deadpool, Sabretooth, and X-23.

In relation to that, CBR also states that the name "Weapon X" has popped up in numerous other Marvel series as well, especially those involving the X-Men. The name was first heard in the issues #72-84 of "Marvel Comics Presents" and presented the origin of Wolverine. More of Wolverine's transformation into "Weapon X" was featured more in 1995's "Age of Apocalypse" event, which was shown in four issues. The year 2002 had the "Weapon X" series that introduced the program's lethal agents. The most recent one was 2009's "Wolverine: Weapon X" by Jason Aaron, which stretched the character's history even more.

It is still unsure what this upcoming story about "Weapon X" will focus on, even the story's creative team has not been detailed yet. But all we know is, it is going be released on spring 2017.
