Renowned fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has criticized Kim Kardashian West for being too flashy about her jewelry in response to the report of the "Keeping Up With The Kardashian" star getting robbed at gunpoint in Paris.

The creative director of Chanel commented that Kardashian was partly to be blamed for the robbery, in which the latter lost $10 million worth of jewelry in the heist.

"(She is) too public, too public - we have to see in what time we live. You cannot display your wealth then be surprised that some people want to share it," Lagerfeld said after the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week, as quoted by Fox News.

He added that he found it unthinkable that the reality star was in a hotel with no security and had high-valued items with her. He also suggested that any famous celebrity with a stash of jewelry should go to hotels where nobody can access or go near the room.

"You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it with you," the 83-year-old fashion designer said.

According to French police, Kardashian was targeted by robbers after she shared photos of her diamond jewelry on Twitter. Kardashian was in a private residence at Hôtel de Pourtalès at the time of the incident, where she was tied up, gagged and held at gunpoint. The suspects reportedly dressed as policemen. They remain at large and have not been identified by authorities

Reports also revealed that one of Kardashian's Lorraine Schwartz diamond rings was among the pieces that were stolen along with two iPhones.

Speaking to Reuters, Lagerfeld said that incident is "a very bad thing for Paris."

Meanwhile, the chief spokeswoman of the Paris police department, Johanna Primevert, noted that the incident was "extremely rare in Paris."

The day after the incident, Kardashian met with her husband Kanye West, after which the couple retired to their apartment in Manhattan, New York. Reps of Kardashian said "she is badly shaken, but physically unharmed."
