The Star Trek franchise returns to TV after it was announced late last year. The series' has its name and it will be called 'Star Trek: Discovery'. While CBS has originally planned for a January release next year, it has been delayed and pushed back to somewhere in May instead.

The pilot episode will premiere on CBS and the following episodes would be streamed in CBS: All Access. The first season hasn't changed any of the details that the studio previously announced and it will still have its list of 13 episodes. The production is scheduled to start the shooting in Nov, 2016. It has been revealed that the plot of the story will be set 10 years before the original series and that the main character will be a woman.

Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller stated in a Hollywood Reporter article, "We aim to dream big and deliver, and that means making sure the demands of physical and post production for a show that takes place entirely in space, and the need to meet an air date, don't result in compromised quality. Before heading into production, we evaluated these realities with our partners at CBS and they agreed: Star Trek deserves the very best, and these extra few months will help us achieve a vision we can all be proud of."

Rod Roddenberry, son of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, is confident that the series will be successful because of the team behind working on the production.

Roddenberry said "What I really connect with is the ideas that he put in it. That idea of a better future. The idea of IDIC; Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations," Roddenberry said. "The appreciation of all things that are different and not really fearing diversity on our planet - embracing it.", WTOP reported.

The teaser, however, was criticized by the fans for its visual effects and this could be one of the reasons for the delay. The teaser can be seen below.
