"The Conjuring" evil doll returns in the first trailer of "Annabelle 2." Will the nun become a Protagonist this time around?

According to Variety, a children's tea party has never been more horrifying as in the first teaser for "Annabelle 2." Aussie actress Miranda Otto looks petrified while holding a cross. She enters a room where supernatural shaking arises courtesy of the titular possessed doll. Annabelle sits across and playing a tea with a little girl. Then the spine crack is heard around the world.

The plot of "Annabelle 2" is about a dollmaker and his wife, as The Independent reported. They had a daughter who tragically died 20 years earlier. They decided to open their home to a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage. Those girls will eventually become the victims of the dollmaker's possessed creation, Annabelle.

To recall, the possessed doll in the "Annabelle 2" first appeared in "The Conjuring" as one of the demonized objects in paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren's (Vera Farmiga) collection. Afterwards, it appeared in the original "Annabelle" film, grossing more than $256 million worldwide back in 2014 on a $6.5 million budget.

"Lights Out" director David Sandberg is directing "Annabelle 2." Gary Dauberman wrote the sequel's script and the original "Annabelle." James Wan and Peter Safran are producing it. Wan takes a break from making horror movies to focus on "Aquaman." "Annabelle" director John Leonetti was not able to direct the sequel.

Alongside Otto, "Without a Trace" regular Anthony LaPaglia and "Spectre" actress Stephanie Sigman also star. She will play the nun named Sister Charlotte. Reports suggest that unlike the scary nun in "The Conjuring 2" or its spinoff, the one in "Annabelle 2" is not an infernal nun.

"Annabelle 2" through Warner Bros. is set to hit UK cinemas on May 26, 2017 and will be released on May 17, 2017 worldwide.
