"Star Wars: Rogue One" teases Jyn Erso's (Felicity Jones) mission and her connection to Galen (played by Mads Mikkersen) in the upcoming film. For the most part, the new trailer is largely a collection of previous bits of footage that have already been released ending with a glimpse of Darth Vader's helmet.

The trailer shows an interception by the Rebels of Galen's coded transmission about an impending imperial weapon's test. Galen is the father of the new "Star Wars" protagonist, Jyn.

The Rebellion wants to know how to decode the message and destroy it. However, it is unclear why Jyn was even recruited to undergo with the mission given the number of special agents on the Rebel Alliance. The alliance will have to beat Empire into decoding every secure information they can find, The Verge reported.

During the recent Star Wars celebration, Mikkelsen teased that his character could possibly have some valuable intelligence in the Galactic Civil War. Recently, fan theories suggest that Galen is a scientist who is remorseful for assisting the Empire to finalize the Death Star, Screen Rant reported.

For the fans, the more interesting aspect of Galen is his relationship to Jyn. Since the "Star Wars" series is known for parental relationships between parents and their children, it is safe to assume that Galen and Jyn will be the emotional center of the film.

Jyn's family background has not been thoroughly explored but the film has shown that she had a troubled history with her family. In the "Rogue One" teaser, it had been stated that Jyn ran away from home and had been on her own since she was a teenager.

"Star Wars: Rogue One" is set in the Star Wars universe shortly before the events of "A New Hope." The story will center on a group of Rebel spies who want to steal the plans for the Galactic Empire's new weapon, The Death Star.

"Rogue One" will open in cinemas on December 16, 2016.
