Kim Hyun Joong apprehended by police for drunk driving; Singer might cancel upcoming fan meeting

Singer-actor Kim Hyun Joong was apprehended by the police and had his license suspended on March 26 for drunk driving.

A driver noticed a vehicle, identified as a BMW, had stopped at an intersection at 2AM KST, Koreaboo reported. The said witness then called the police when the vehicle didn't move forward when the traffic light had turned green.

Upon inspection, the police found Kim Hyun Joong sleeping in the driver's seat. A test also revealed that the "Inspiring Generation" star's blood alcohol level was at 0.075 percent. The legal limit in South Korea is only 0.03 percent. Anything above it would be a legitimate ground for suspension of driver's license.

The following day, Kim Hyun Joong appeared at the police station and admitted to drinking one liter of beer.

In response to the Kim Hyun Joong drunk driving incident, Key East Entertainment explained that Kim Hyun Joong drinking at a place near his house when he was asked by a parking attendant to move his car. According to the agency, the singer had not driven for 1 km when he was apprehended by the police. The agency further explained that Kim Hyun Joong had been practicing for the concert and hasn't had enough sleep for days.

Nevertheless, the agency said Kim Hyun Joong is aware that his action was wrong and is reflecting on this error in judgment.

Insiders believe that the Kim Hyun Joong drunk driving incident would negatively impact his upcoming promotions, allkpop reported. He was discharged from the military in February, and was supposed to resume his activities with a fan meeting on April 29. The insiders say it is likely producers will cancel the event in light of the incident.

Kim Hyun Joong was in the spotlight in the past couple of months due to the heated court battle between him and his ex-girlfriend, in which the woman accused the actor of physically abuse. The woman later dropped the assault charges against Kim Hyun Joong, but the case will still be sent to the prosecutor's office for further review.
