What’s the reason for the wrong Oscars’ Best Picture announcement? Was it intentional?

The "89th Academy Awards" has just finished.  The "Oscars" this year is quite a controversial one. "La La Land" was announced as the Best Picture winner instead of "Moonlight".

What is the reason for the gaffe? The envelope mixed up was reason for the wrong announcement, The New York Times reported. The presenters, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway got the Best Leading actress award envelope containing Emma Stone's name.

Whose mistake was that? It was the mistake of the accountants who handed the wrong envelope.

Prior to the announcement of the Best Picture winner, according to CNN, the accountant, Brian Cullinan was seen taking a picture of Emma Stone which was posted in the accountant's Twitter account. There were two accountants who represented the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. They are Martha Ruiz and Cullinan.

They have both have a briefcase which has the same number and names of the winners. The duplicate serves as a backup just in case one person gets into an accident, gets stuck in the traffic or will have any other problems. The accountants have to separately ride into two different vehicles while carrying those envelopes. The two accountants, Ruiz and Cullinan were captured with all smiles on the red carpet prior to the start of the "Oscars", but when the wrong film was announced, the expressions of their faces could not be painted.

When it was revealed that "La La Land" actually lost in the Best Picture category, actress Stone was shocked and the "La La Land" male lead Ryan Gosling was kind of amused. Stone said in the post-"Oscars" press conference that she loves "Moonlight." Stone added that the whole time when the Best Picture was announced, she had the Best Leading Actress envelope with her, so she does not understand.

For many years, "Oscars" has never had any controversial issues like this. Oscars have had the same accounting firm for many years and this is the first time they have had a problem with them.

Jimmy Kimmel, the host of this year's "Oscars" was there on standby to wrap the show up when the Best Picture was announced. Kimmel, being a comedian himself, said that it is all Steve Harvey's mistake.

For everyone's recall, Harvey hosted the 2015 "Miss Universe". Harvey wrongly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as "Miss Universe" instead of Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
