NBA Trade Rumors: Warriors expects sign Jose Calderon from Lakers, releasing Briante Weber

Golden State Warriors expected to have Jose Calderon to join the team from the Lakers. The Warriors has released Briante Weber from its roster for the veteran point guard.

The news came as Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr announced Saturday that Golden State Warriors would not re-sign Briante Weber for the rest of the season, ESPN reported. The Warriors expected to have a veteran point guard to fill in the position.

Lakers has planned to buyout the Spanish national team. Once the buyout is finalized, he will be available to join the Warriors. Coach Kerr has already expressed his confidence to get Calderon after the 112-95 victory against Brooklyn Nets on Saturday, Feb. 25.

“We think we have something in place, but it’s not finalized,” Coach Kerr said after the Saturday night game as quoted by San Fransisco Chronicle. He lated added, “Got to wait until it’s official.”

The move signaled the escalating intensity of the rivalry between Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers to pursue the championship. Cavaliers is reported to sign Deron Williams from Mavericks as its additional point guard this Monday, Feb. 27.

Jose Calderon is a veteran point guard that has been in the NBA for 12 years. He first joined Toronto Raptors in 2005 after spending five years in Euroleague Basketball. He is known to be a very good ball distributor that possess a great play making skill.

The 35-year-old player became the dominant force in the Raptors backcourt for 8 years, before he was traded to Detroit Pistons in 2013. He only played half of the 2012-13 season in Detroit, because he was later traded to Dallas Mavericks. He became the lead point guard in Dallas for one season before the Mavericks traded him to Knicks in 2014.

He played two seasons as the lead point guard with the Knicks and his playmaking skills helped the Knicks to play better. Before the 2016-17 season began, he was traded to Chicago Bulls that soon traded him to Lakers, his curent team.
