Zayn Malik has allegedly cancelled his Radio 1 Big Weekend appearance after he found out that his ex-fiancé Perrie Edwards is part of the line-up. A new report also suggest that his new single “Pillowtalk” is about Edwards and not his new girlfriend Gigi Hadid.

According to an insider from Mirror, Malik wanted to avoid an awkward encounter with Edwards. The former One Direction member pointed out that the media will make the performance all about him and Edwards. He explained that people will just talk about their past relationship and totally lose focus on his new single, "Pillowtalk."

Although Radio 1 promised that Malik and Edwards will be kept apart the entire show, the former insisted that he did not want to share the stage with his former flame. It was said that he wanted fans to focus on his music and not his personal life.

"Once they're both at the same location on the same day, tongues will wag. And if they were to bump into each other, it would make the whole day awkward," the source explained.

Months after quitting One Direction, Malik reportedly dumped Edwards via a text message. He, however, insisted that he had more respect for the Little Mix member than that, adding that he will always love her. Malik and Edwards had been together since 2013.

While his new girlfriend Gigi Hadid is the star of his new music video, "Pillowtalk" host of Hollywire TV Chelsea Briggs claimed that the song is in fact about his ex-fiancé.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Malik shared that he only wrote the single two months after he left One Direction, which only meant that he was still engaged with Edwards at that time.

Briggs said that when she first saw "Pillowtalk" she was extremely surprised with how Malik got raunchy with Hadid given that he wrote the song for his former flame.

"It just feels like there's a little bit of a lack of respect [for Perrie] and that just cuts me deep. I feel for her," she said.
