A new study finds out that e-cigarettes don't help at all in discouraging teenagers to stop smoking. If anything, it even pushes them to do it. This research started going viral on Jan. 26 after scientists published it in the Pediatrics journal.

Bad news for those who think that vaping is a good alternative for teens to not smoke or even quit from smoking because that is not how it works. MSN's report said that since e-cigarettes were introduced in the market in the United States, health and statistics experts didn't see a change when it comes to teenagers smoking less.

Researchers at the University of California San Francisco gave out surveys to 140,000 students in high school back in 2004 to 2014, as part of their study. Results showed that e-cigarettes even became the gateway for teens to smoke real cigarettes and tobacco until they become addicted to it.

The fact that e-cigarettes contain nicotine is already enough reason for teenagers to get hooked on smoking cigarettes. It is interesting to note though that there are some cases and places that say e-cigarettes have helped reduce the number of people smoking cigarettes. Researchers at the University College London have this result and they are even recommending it if anyone wants to quit smoking, according to The Guardian.

Meanwhile, back in America, the numbers and result remain the same. There was no reduction in the number of people addicted to smoking even after vaping became a thing. Anti-smoking campaigns also contributed a lot in making more teenagers smoke cigarettes.

The study also showed that most teenage smokers were exposed to smokers who are part of their family and most of those who like wearing branded clothes are the ones addicted to it. The profile of these smokers is different from the ones using vapes.
