The cast and crew of "Veep" have already began production months ago for the show's upcoming sixth season. However, fans of Selina Meyer are still waiting for HBO to announce the official premiere date of the political satire's new season. Since the premium cable network has been busy lately with its top-tier shows like "Game of Thrones" and "Westworld," it's likely that they will now be focusing their attention this time around in setting an official premiere date for "Veep" Season 6.

Earlier this month, showrunner David Mandel took to Twitter to address that burning question. When a fan asked if "Veep" season 6 will arrive on HBO in April or mid-2017, Mandel did not confirm anything. But he did say that the cable network "will announce soon." In the past years, each new season of Veep has always kicked off during spring. So it's possible that Season 6 will also premiere sometime in April 2017. Fans will just have to wait for further developments at this point.

Previewing what's ahead for Selina Meyer, Mandel has revealed back in June that "Veep" Season 6 will see the former president of the US in the next stage of her political career. Adding that to some extent, viewers will see Selina on a "quest for relevancy."

"How does she live in a world where, when she turns on the television, she's going to see this other president? I've never been happier to not have done what people guessed," the showrunner said.

In other "Veep" news, Deadline has learned that a new character will be introduced in Season 6. "Blunt Talk" actress Mary Holland has been tapped to play a high-powered political fundraiser for a season-long arc. She will appear in a recurring basis throughout the new season. Whether or not she is set to become Selina's new friend or foe in the political arena is yet to be known.

"Veep" stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Gary Cole, Anna Chlumsky and Matt Walsh.
