‘Star Wars’ News: ‘Episode VIII’ writer and director Rian Johnson discusses more on Rey, Luke Skywalker and Film’s Beginning Scene

While we wait for 'Star Wars Episode VIII' coming out - and getting its official subtitle - we'll be hearing more and more news about the upcoming sequel to get the hype on. So far, recent reports say that "Episode VIII" writer and director Rian Johnson plans to pick up the movie where "Force Awakens" left off, with Rey finally meeting Grand Master Luke Skywalker on that remote mysterious island.

According to an interview with USA Today, Johnson explained that he would want to expound on the scene between Rey and Luke as they've met on the mysterious island of Ahch-To. He expressed his desire to not skip ahead after a few years after the duo's meeting, showing the very next moment of what happens" after Rey hands Luke Skywalker his lightsaber.

The director and writer for the upcoming 'Star Wars' sequel revealed that the film will focus more the relationship between Rey and Luke and the particular way the interact and relate to one another. "Episode VIII" will also reveal Luke's reasons on why he went into hiding on the mysterious island, while Rey will come to terms with her newfound connection with the Force and its power.

"She's taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential," Johnson said.

In earlier news, IGN reported that "Force Awakens" actor Adam Driver shared on the direction of "Episode VIII" will be, specifically on the part of Kylo Ren. The actor explain that he plans to explore Kylo's humanity and why he would justify his violent actions, finally revealing on what character is after in the entire new trilogy. "Episode VIII" will also begin to explore plot points on the relationship between Ren and the antagonistic First Order in "Force Awakens."

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" will hit theaters Dec. 15, 2017.
