On Jan. 7, iKON had the chance to talk about their thoughts on starting the new year with a Best New Artist Award during the "2016 Japan Records Awards" through a V Live broadcast.

According to Allkpop, iKON earned the award on Dec. 31, making them the second Korean act to receive the Best New Artist Award from the "Japan Records Awards." Reports claimed BIGBANG was given the same recognition back in 2009.

After ending 2016 with a bang, iKON members thought 2017 will be a good year for them. "We have a good feeling about 2017. On Dec. 31, we received the Best New Artist Award at the annual Japan Records Awards," the members said as per Soompi.

The boys admitted they never thought they would be given with such recognition in Japan. The iKON members also promised to continue what they have started last year.

"We had no idea that we would win. We're foreign artists in Japan, so we didn't have big expectations. That's why we were very surprised when we received the award. We received a lot of love in 2016. We'll continue to work hard this year too," iKON added.

The seven-member boy group made their debut in September 2015 under YG Entertainment. iKON was first publicized in reality program "WIN: Who Is Next," where the members were under Team B, competing against Team A which is composed of the WINNER members.

On the other hand, a source affiliated with YG Entertainment said the two boy groups are gearing up for their upcoming comeback. The source said iKON and WINNER are set to make a comeback after Akdong Musician's return on Jan. 3.

However, the source refused to give further details about the comeback of iKON and WINNER, stating that the specifics are not yet confirmed.
